New Grabs: Ed Gein, Coliseum, Envy, Polar Bear Club

Been slacking again on vinyl posts for this blog, but in my defense, I hadn’t gotten anything new until this past weekend. Here’s what I picked up:

  • Polar Bear Club: Clash Battle Guilt Pride

I’ve been on a gruff punk kick the past few months- the new Nothington, Red City Radio and now this have been getting a lot of plays. I was never a huge PBC fan prior to this one, but clash battle really clicked with me. It’s a really solid record from start to finish, probably one of the best from last year now that I think about it.

  • Ed Gein: 3 song demo + It’s A Shame That A Family Can Be Torn Apart By Something As Simple As A Pack Of Wild Dogs.

I was pleasantly surprised to fine this as I had no idea if was ever pressed on vinyl. Ed Gein were (technically are- they recently got back together an put out another record) a 3 piece from upstate new york that were ferocious. All 3 traded off on vocals, nasty players- they just ripped every time i saw them. This is my favorite of their material.

RIYL: Reversal of Man, As the Sun Sets, Backstabbers, Inc.

  • Envy: Insomniac Doze

Everyone knows who Envy is, no description needed. I did not care for this when it first came out, but I found it cheap and decided to give it another chance. On first listen now, I want to smack my former self for not being more into this a few years ago.

  • Coliseum: No Salvation

I picked this up on a whim really. Saw them play last year and was very impressed. Haven’t listened to it much yet, and I know they’ve put out a bunch so not sure if this is the best place to start but yeah.
